Meet the Team
Walter Swanson Owner
Walter Swanson began his career in the transmission industry in 1980 as a technician at Lee’s Transmissions. In 1987, Walt became shop manager, and liked it so much that when the opportunity arose, he decided to purchase the business. In 1995, Walt became the owner of Lee’s Transmissions.
Walt believes in keeping up with the rapid technological advances in the auto industry and keeping up to date with the progressions of modern transmissions. He is actively involved with the Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association (ATRA), the transmission trade association dedicated to maintaining the highest standards in the automatic transmission repair industry for work quality, customers service and business success.
When not tending to the shop, Walt is an avid sports fan. He is especially interested in the local teams such as the B.C. Lions, Vancouver Canadians, and more. His true sporting passion, however, is being an ice hockey fan, from the Vancouver Giants to NHL. Not just an armchair quarterback, Walt also plays hockey in two senior leagues in the lower mainland as a goalie.
Kyle Smith Technician / Service Advisor
Kyle Smith is an automotive technician and service advisor at Lee’s Transmissions. Kyle's attention to detail and genuine care for his customer’s vehicles makes his skills a valuable asset to our shop. He treats each vehicle he works on like his own, providing only top quality auto repair.
Kyle began his career in the transmission industry in the year 2000 as a parts driver for a national transmission parts supplier. Shortly thereafter he progressed to outside sales, and then moved on from "parts" in 2005 to start as an automotive technician at a transmission shop. Kyle joined Lee’s Transmissions early in 2007, and continued his career as an automotive technician and service advisor.
Kyle is an active member on the board of directors of his housing co-op, as well as involved with his local residents association. When not chasing after his very active two young children, Kyle can be found running the seawall, rowing in false creek or enjoying coffee in East Van.
Kyle continues to upgrade his skills by attending yearly ATRA technical seminars and keeping up-to-date with changes and updates of modern transmissions.
Tige Thorne Transmission Rebuilder
Tige Thorne is the transmission (automatic and standard) rebuilder at Lee's Transmissions. Growing up with a Master Automotive Technician as his father, Tige had a strong foundation of experience to build upon to begin his career as a transmission rebuilder.
Coming off a lengthy career in the construction industry due to a market and housing downturn in 1998, Tige transitioned into the transmission trade and found he had true aptitude for transmission rebuilding.
Tige joined Lee's Transmissions in the year 2000 as transmission rebuilder. His knowledge and vast array of experience and skill has excelled his career and made Lee's Transmissions a leader in quality transmission rebuilds in the lower mainland.
During the warmer months of the year, Tige can be found cruising the twisty roads of the lower mainland and beyond on his street bike, or camping and dirt biking with his close knit group of friends in the backwoods of British Columbia.
Tige continually upgrades his skills yearly by attending ATRA technical seminars and other classes in order to keep up the highest standards of the transmission industry.
